Obituary for Cyril Owen Smith

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Cyril Owen Smith of Tantallon, NS at the age of 89. He was born January 9, 1933 in Tantallon and passed away April 6, 2022 at the Victoria General Hospital with his family by his side. A carpenter for over 70 years, he built many houses around St. Margaret’s Bay. He also started the Tantallon ball field, was an avid hockey player and loved to play the guitar and sing. A huge passion of Cyril’s was his weekly distribution of food to the needy in the community.

He was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Bertha (Trueman) Smith; his wife, Gloria (Meisner) in 2010); his siblings Ada, Thelma, Delmore, Maynard, Garvie, Lena, Roy, Marjorie, and Daniel.

He is survived by his three children: Pam Jones (Duncan), Tanya Smith (Gord Hatt), and Troy Smith (Linda Nauss); his five grandchildren: Parker, Kiley, Jason, Jessica and Shawn; his seven great grandchildren: Cassia, Sadie, Mila, Zealand, Brady, Kallie and Eleanor; his only sibling, a sister, Evelyn Rafuse of PEI.

The funeral service for Cyril will be held at 3 pm on Monday, April 11, at the Tantallon Seventh-day Adventist Church, 12494 Peggy’s Cove Road where he was a faithful and very active member for 45 years. Pastor David Crook is officiating assisted by Pastor Sean Todd. Burial to follow in the church cemetery. Family flowers only.

Donations may be made to ADRA Canada (website https://www.ADRA.ca/) or a provided church envelope marked “Ukraine.” This was Cyril’s favorite charity with the crises in the Ukraine heavy on his heart in his final days. Thus all funds donated will go directly to alleviate the Ukraine suffering where ADRA is very actively engaged at this time.

For those who can, the wearing of masks would be appreciated
