Obituary for Eileen Margaret Hurshman

It is with heavy hearts we share the passing of Eileen M. Hurshman who died peacefully the evening of Monday September 7th, with her family by her side. Born June 3rd, 1924 in East Chester, Nova Scotia to Arden and Nellie (Heisler) Corkum. Eileen is survived by her daughter Katheryne and son-in-law Dave (Whitehead), her son Geoffrey and daughter-in-law Denise, and her grandchildren Cindy, Anthony, Alan, Sandi, Emma and Isaac, as well as great grandchildren, Brandon, Crystal and Jordan and great-great grandchildren Kenzie and Alex.
Eileen is predeceased by the love of her life, Harvey James (Nov. 2014), daughters Cheryl and son-in-law Elmer (Steele), and Margaret (Larkin), her sisters Hazel (Boutilier) and Edie (Stevens) and brothers John and Stanley Corkum.
Eileen was 98 years old at the time of her passing, hers was a life of devotion to her husband and family. Each day was passed with hard work and happiness at Harvey’s side creating their incredible home and gardens, his to sustain and hers for all to enjoy. Harvey was her rock; they were committed to their marriage, refusing to argue, and fueled by their love. Dedicated to her roll as wife and mother, Eileen spent every hour working to ensure her families needs and wants were met, be it her words of wisdom and support or her wonderful diners and sweets, you always her home with a full heart and belly. Eileen loved company, all were welcome through her kitchen door, greeted with a warm smile and a cup of hot tea, and a good laugh for sure. Eileen was devoted to her church St. Luke’s United of Tantallon and will be honored there on Thursday September 15th, 2022,at 11:00AM with a reception to follow and internment with family at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Eileen loved flowers, so if you like, flowers are welcome and will later be donated to the Veterans Memorial Hospital (6 east) to be enjoyed by the caregivers that saw her through her end of years.
