Obituary for Elsie Mae MacNeil

Elsie Mae MacNeil

97, Upper Tantallon passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 with her Bay Shore worker and Karen holding her hand. Born in Tantallon she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Florence (Dauphinee) MacNeil. Elsie worked at the Leghorn Barbecue in her earlier years then went on to be a prison guard at the Halifax Correction Center where she was given the nick name “Sarge”. Mother loved bowling and her Monday gatherings at the White Caps Seniors Club where she sold tickets at the club for many years. She loved music, baking, homemade bread and gatherings with her family, especially on Mother’s Day with her three daughters and granddaughters.

Elsie is survived by her daughter, Maureen Cyr; son, Allen (Karen) MacNeil, Tantallon; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister, Daisy Dauphinee; brother, Harvey Dauphinee; many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband of 72 years, Allen “Wimpy” MacNeil; daughter, Sandra MacNeil; and Heather Fillis.

A funeral service will be held 11 am Tuesday, April 11th in St. Margarets Anglican Church, 36 St Margarets Crescent, Tantallon. Burial to follow in church cemetery. A special thank you to Rhonda Benight, Tammy Morash for their dedicated visits and the Bay Shore Home Health Workers.
