Obituary for Ernest Charles Armitage

Ernest Charles Armitage

It’s with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved father and grandfather, Ernest Charles Armitage on Monday, Sept 6th at the age of 84 after a short illness. Ernie was born in Halifax, NS on August 23, 1938, to Amy and Ernest Armitage. Ernie is survived by daughter, and supper buddy, Annette; son, and Kubota buddy, Todd (Nancy); and the light of his life granddaughters, Alexa and Hailey. He was predeceased by his parents Amy and Ernest; the love of his life Corrine; daughter, Susanne; sisters, Beatrice and Dorothy and brothers, Freddie Arthur, and Jack.
Ernie worked in the industry he loved for over 70yrs beginning with TP Calkin’s Ltd. and William Stairs Son and Morrow. He later opened EC Armitage Hardware in 1972, celebrating 50yrs in business this year. “If you do what you love, you never work a day in your life”.

When not working, you could find Ernie puttering in his gardens, across the road in the garage, at St. James Church or playing in one of his Kubota tractors, enjoying life to the fullest. He was a respected community member and a kind, giving man with a great sense of humor and lived life on his terms. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.
A private family gathering will take place at a later date. Donations may be made to St. James Anglican Church, Boutilier’s Point, NS. Online condolences can be made to www.rawalker.ca
