Obituary for Floyd Eldon Jollymore

Floyd Eldon Jollymore

87, Mahone Bay Nursing Home, formerly of Fox Point passed away August 22, 2022. Born in Mill Cove, he was a son of the late Hiram and Rhoda (Jollymore) Jollymore.

Surviving are brothers Aaron (Joan), Vernon (Carolyn), Albert (Kimberley), George; sisters, Rhoda, Janice, Rhea (Donald), Cora, June and Linda, as well as, many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his stepmother Nellie; brothers Layton, Walter, Julian, Leo, Reid, and Andrew; sisters Elva, Vera, Lola, Blanche, Ella, Theresa Mary and Esther.
Over 60 years ago, Floyd was adopted into the Westhaver family having first lived with Charlie and Susan, and for the past 20 years, with Phyllis.

“Family isn’t defined only by last names or by blood, its defined by commitment and by love”

He will be sorely missed by Debbie (Edd), Suzette, Spencer (Mona), Kevin (Cathy), Paula (Richard) & special friend, Cindy. He was proud that the girls called him “Daddy Floyd”, and the boys called him “Jollymore”. He was “Grampy Floyd” to many and Chelsea’s special “Grumpy”. A great family man.

He will be especially missed by Phyllis whom he referred to as “Mom” or “Mama”. Until Floyd’s hospitalization and LTC placement, the two were inseparable – their friendship spanned the full 60 years. They were like brother and sister.

Floyd often reminisced about his childhood. When most children were attending elementary school, he and Layton were helping to support their family by hauling firewood in winter and digging graves in summer. He may have been a small man in stature however, anyone will tell you that he was as strong as an ox.

Floyd was employed in the fishery having worked at the former Burns Fish Plant in Hubbards for over 30 years. There, he made many lasting friendships and had many a story to tell.

We all loved Floydy. His memory will live on in our hearts despite his physical absence. You will have never met a more genuine, loyal, good-natured man.

Join us for a celebration of Floyd’s life being held at Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Hubbards at 11am, August 30, 2022. Preceding the service there will be a private family burial 10am in St James Anglican Church Cemetery, Fox Point.
