It is with great sadness that the family of Frances Elizabeth (Betty) Norwood announce her passing, on February 9, 2022, at age 87. She passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Hubbards on November 3, 1934, Betty was the youngest child of Raymond and Elizabeth (“Scottie”) Schwartz.
Betty was known by family, friends and her community as a generous and kind person who always put the needs of others ahead of her own. She took pride in being a lifetime resident of Hubbards and gave back by quietly supporting community members and giving her time, energy and resources to local events. Betty contributed countless hours of volunteer work with the Hubbards Heritage Society, ensuring that its history and residents would be honoured and not forgotten. However, the role Betty valued the most was that of wife, mother, and grandmother, because the family she created meant everything to her.
Betty is survived by her husband of 67 years, Edmund (Ned) Norwood, and she was the great love of his life, having known each other since childhood. She is also survived by her four children Debbie (Vance) Slauenwhite, Hubbards; Tina Norwood, Hubbards; Stephen (Cindy) Norwood, Stillwater Lake; and Lisa (Wayne) Smith, Hubbards and grandchildren LeeAnn (Warwick), New Zealand; Erin, Vancouver; Alex (Ceilidh), Halifax; Nathan, Cole Harbour; Drew (Tatiana), Halifax; Sean, Halifax; Adam (Juliana), Halifax; Sam, Halifax and Callum, Hubbards; three great-grandchildren, Briem, Quin and Maisie and seven nieces and nephews. Betty was pre-deceased by her parents and by her siblings John (Maxine) Schwartz, Harold Schwartz and Gertie (Bob) Noonan.
A graveside service will be announced later in the spring. To celebrate her life, donations can be made to St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Hubbards. Betty’s gift to us all was her love, warmth and kindness; let’s continue her legacy by being good to one another ♥
