Obituary for Gerald Arnold Wright

Gerald Arnold Wright
Age 92, of Lewis Hall Parkland at the Lakes, Dartmouth, formerly of Seabright, died October 28 at the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in North Sydney, July 20, 1927 he was the son of the late Alexander George and Alice Maud (Pitkeathly) Wright. Gerald grew up in Halifax and worked at the Halifax Shipyards for 44 years where he took an apprenticeship as a joiner and later became a pattern maker and model maker. He liked working with woods of all kinds, making toys, turning bowls, small items of furniture and model boats. He kept woodworking as a hobby after retirement. He also enjoyed bowling, dancing and travelling with his companion of 36 years, Janet Fisher. Gerald was a long-time member of the Maritime Ship Modellers Guild and enjoyed showing his modelling skills at boat shows around the Maritimes. Gerald also volunteered at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic where one of his proudest accomplishments was the creation of a scale model of RMS Titanic with his museum colleagues in time for the 100th anniversary of the ship’s sinking. That model, displayed at the museum, took 3000 hours to create. Gerald was also a member of the White Caps Seniors Club where he played darts and also played guitar in the Seniors Band. Gerald was predeceased by his father and mother; partner Janet; sister, Eileen; brothers, Vernon, MacLean, Clifford and Leonard and nephews, Glen (Ida) and Donald. He is survived by nephews, Eric (Margaret); Philip (Isabella) and John (Corinna); by grand nieces, Glenda, Gale Jennifer, Christine, Gennifer, Janice and Monica and grand nephews, Dwayne, Nicholas, William, Alex and Nathan. Also, by great grand nieces, Sarah, Elora and Natalie and great grand nephew, Avery.
