Obituary for Helen Rita Andersen

HELEN ANDERSEN (nee Langille) July 4, 1921 – September 13, 2018

It is with great sadness but sweet blessings our Mother has passed. She has made her final journey home to join her loved ones. Mom was 97 years old and born and raised in Fox Point. As a young woman she started her working career in Halifax. Later she came to work in Chester (Camp Norway) during the war where she met the love of her life, her future husband Torleif. She lived in Pictou for a period of time and worked as a riveter in the Pictou Shipyards. Mom became a mother and spent her early life bringing up a family of seven. Working with the public, which she enjoyed most, Mom tried her hand at her own enterprise , “Helen’s Lunch” which was first located during the summer at Fox Point Beach. Her second location was at the bottom of our family property in Simms Settlement. She also took her travelling canteen to several locations within the county to sell her well know “Fish & Chips”. She was a very caring and loving person and worked at Shoreham Village as a CCA. In her later working years, she went back to what she enjoyed the most, jobs in the Hospitality Industry. What brought our Mother the most joy and entertainment were the many family gatherings for food, dance and music. She loved to watch her family all together.
Helen is survived by her daughters Berit Andersen(Ross ), Sonja Meisner (Michael ) Heather O’Reilly (Wayne), Barbara Nauss (Bill) and son Jonas (Daisy), sisters Joan Annand & Viola Kennedy, brother Keith Langille and sister-in-law, Else Andersen. She has 17 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, both in Canada and Norway. She was predeceased by her husband Torleif, daughter Helen Maria and son Torleif Serinius, parents Buelah & Victor Langille and brother Harold.
