Obituary for James Arthur Coolen

JAMES ARTHUR, “Jim” Coolen

Jim passed away 17 August 2021 at Arborstone Enhanced Care in the company of family at the age of 75.
He was born and brought up in Halifax, and later, became a resident of Lower Sackville and then Upper Tantallon. Jim was an electrician for 43 years, retiring after 25 years with DND Halifax Dockyard. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing the piano, a game of cards or chess. He was also an avid hockey fan. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Iris (Hutton); son Peter (Kim), Sri Lanka; daughter Lesley (Martin Cruikshank); sister Lynnora Burchell; and brother William (Patsy). He is also survived by his grandchildren Lucille, Ethan, and Charlotte Coolen with whom he so enjoyed their visits and playtime together. Jim was predeceased by his parents William and Daisy (Mason) Coolen and his brother-in-law Mark Burchell. The family is grateful for the care Jim received from the 3rd floor staff at Arborstone over the past year as he struggled with dementia. No visitation is planned but a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date due to Covid 19 restrictions.
