Obituary for Janice Elizabeth Jackson

It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Janice on Monday, October 9, 2023 at home in Boutiliers Point at the age of 77.

She is survived by her daughter, Jillian (Dennis Crouse); sister, Lois Moore (Daryl), Hampton NB; nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Dorothy (Scullion) and Cecil Dallon of Gardner Creek, NB; sister, May Mullaly, Fredericton, NB; late husband, Donald Jackson, Halifax NS; and late partner, James Rutledge, Boutiliers Point, NS.

Janice grew up in Gardner Creek, NB. She moved to Halifax and began her career as an X-Ray Technician at the V.G. Later on, she moved to Boutiliers Point to set her roots into the community. She had a great love for nature and animals, which led her to start a hobby farm and gardening. She was an avid sewer and made countless costumes for the figure skating and dance communities. She was a very active member of St. James’ Church and the Parish of French Village and became a licensed lay minister. She took on many various roles and responsibilities. The Mothers’ Union was an organization that she held dear to her heart, always wanted to learn more about her faith everyday and made it her mission to try and find answers wherever she could. She loved taking an idea and seeing it come to fruition, such as, Messy Church, Campfire and Compline, and Wednesday Morning Services.

When her daughter began to skate, Janice made sure to be involved. She was President of the St. Margaret’s Bay Skating Club for many years. She also volunteered her time on various figure skating committees provincially and regionally.

She will be deeply missed by everyone and had a profound impact on the community more than we can imagine. One thing she always let everyone know was how important it is to let the person you care about say, “I Love You”, before you hang up the phone.
A Celebration of Life will be held at St. James’ Anglican Church, 6991 St. Margaret’s Bay Road, Boutiliers Point on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 11am with Archdeacon Brieanna Andrews officiating.

In lieu of flowers, at her request, donations can be made to St. James’ Anglican Church or to an animal rescue of your choice.
