Obituary for John St. Clair Backman

John St. Clair Backman

John passed away on October 7, 2021. He was the son of the late Neil and Viola (Zinck) Backman. He was born on Graves Island in Lunenburg County and grew up across the water in Aspotogan. He was a well respected salesman for Ben’s Bakery for 36 years. He was a quiet and caring man with a great sense of humor. The first 21 years of married life were spent in Spryfield. Then the desire to “live on the water” took him to St. Margaret’s Bay. There he enjoyed boating, snowmobiling, and ATVing. His passion for beautiful and well kept vehicles continued all his life. After retirement, he enjoyed bus trips to the U.S. and Canada. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Darlene. He is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Constance (Kidston); also, his brother, Ira (Nancy), and 4 nephews. Thanks to the staff of St. Vincent Nursing Home, for the care and compassion shown to John for the last 2 ½ years.

The funeral service will be held 2p.m. Wednesday, October 13th in St. George’s Anglican Church, Head of St. Margaret’s Bay with Rev. Brieanna Andrews officiating.
