John James Beale
Age 89, Peggys Cove. Died at home September 18. Born in the Bailiwick of Guernsey in the Channel Islands. John lived in Portsmouth England through the war with his mother and sister, his father away at sea in the Navy. The family emigrated to Canada in 1946 - arriving through Pier 21 Halifax and settling in Ottawa where he met and married Fay. Dad had an inquiring mind, youthful enthusiasm, a passionate interest in social issues of the day, and a deep love of family. With his uncanny intuition and ability to connect with people of all ages he worked as a self employed sales agent and created lasting friendships with independent artisans and shop owners from coast to coast. In 1975 he and Fay and their children moved to Peggy’s Cove where they established their family business, Beales’ Bailiwick Limited. John loved being by the sea and adopted his new home with enthusiasm - becoming an ambassador for the province. John was predeceased by his lifelong love, wife Fay (Doyle), his parents James and Edith (Hammerton), and his sister Beryl Groleau. Dad will be dearly missed by his children, Jo (Doug), Kelly, Tobias (Nicole), Eliza (Wayne), John Peter (Eva), grandchildren, Wylie, Gabriel (Kate), Aaron, Julia, Julien, Zoe, Jesse, Zachary, Kai, Elida, brothers-in-law, Brian (Sandy), Michael (Jenny) Doyle; nieces, Laura, Megan, Sarah, Maura, Rowan, nephews, Barry, Ryan, Simon, extended family, Jackie, Ditta, and so many dear friends. Thank you to the many people who helped care for Dad and made it possible for him to live out his days in his own home. In John’s memory, reach out to family and friends.
