Tantallon, Nova Scotia – On October 12, 2020 John (Dunnie) Richard Burns passed away at his home, Burns Cottage, with his wife, Beverly Nemethy Burns, and his niece, Karen Soltan, at his side. John (Dunnie) was born July 22, 1942, the third child of Dr. Gerald Ross Burns and Mary Rebecca Burns (nee Duggan). He is predeceased by his brother, Dr. Gerald (Gigi) Ross Burns, and his sister Mary Judith Soltan (nee Burns). He is survived by his son Richard Burns and his step-son Steven Nemethy as well as his nieces, nephew, grandnieces and grandnephews. John (Dunnie) died on Thanksgiving Monday. We are thankful for the care he showed for the people and places that were important to him. He cared deeply for Bev and her well-being. He took care of his Aunts, Eveleen (Nome) Lucinda Burns and Mary Eileen (Nini) Burns with love. He cared for Burns Cottage and the Old Barn and shared his love for the property with his nieces, grandnieces and grandnephews. An invitation into his garage was like entry to an enchanted place with all its treasures. He had the right tool for every project and the sage advice to go with it. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Margaret’s Bay Stewardship Association for his love of the waters, islands and marine creatures of the bay.
