Kirk William Macrae (October 8, 1970 - January 23, 2022
Kirk William Macrae left us peacefully, but too soon on January 23, 2022 at South Shore Regional Hospital, in Bridgewater. He was surrounded and embraced by love sent from near and far and his hands were held tight by ones he loved. Kirk was born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, and spent his younger years in the Kempt Rd, Dundee and Troy area, along with a little camp in the woods.
Kirk met Lori in 2003. 3 months later they were living in Mill Cove, just outside of Hubbards. They didn’t know each other very long and it took some time to get used to each other. New home, new relationship, they got a dog, Denver. Kirk’s daughter Alexa came to live with them for a while and Kirk loved his little family more than anything. Kirk and Lori built a rental business together for the movie industry and life just kept getting better. After 18 years together, married for the last 5, Kirk was taken away. 18 years, where he spent many of those years working at nuisance wildlife control and construction, making many close friends along the way.
It seemed the friends Kirk made, became true friends, life long friends. Many relied on his advice and loved his conversation. Kirk's pride and joy was his daughter Alexa, who has his smarts and quick wit. She was his purpose, and his dedication and commitment to her was obvious and abundant. He loved learning new things, reading and watching everything. Science, space, nature, you name it. He loved his animals Cooper, Flynt and Bella, and they all will feel the impact of his absence.
Although Kirk loved living in Mill Cove, his heart was in Cape Breton. where he could visit with his mom, who he loved dearly and spoke with everyday. Kirk loved trapping, fishing, hunting with his uncle Colin and hanging out with his cousins Alison, Lennon and Venessa, and enjoying the outdoors and back roads. He often talked about the times he spent at the cabin (The Camp) in the woods. It was a special place and a special time. Walking the trap lines, controlling the beaver, hunting and fishing. He embraced the peace, the darkness, and the sounds of night. He learned skills there he could use and take forward in his life and career. Kirk was not afraid of anything. He could navigate through the woods on the darkest of nights with no source of light other than the moon and get to where he was going. He also had patients like you’ve never seen. He could sit for hours waiting for movement in the water from a beaver or the sudden splash of a tail. He would outlast most that would dare go on one of his adventures.
Kirk was survived by His wife and partner Lori Ann, his beautiful daughter Alexa, mother Mathilda (Ben); sister Krista, brother Kyle; stepsister Monique (Fred); stepbrothers Chris and Edward; Stepfather Derek Kruger, and father Kirk Chamberlain. Also survived by close cousins Donna, Alison and Lennon, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews and more cousins who loved him dearly. Predeceased by brother Kevin who passed in 1990, and grandparents William and Alice Macrae. May they all be together now.
A celebration of our Kirkie’s life will be planned for the summer. Details will be shared once arrangements have been made.
RIP Kirk XOX You will never be forgotten.
