Obituary for Margaret Hinshelwood "Greta" Doull

Margaret (Greta) Hinshelwood Doull

June 2, 1923 - December 16, 2018

On Sunday, December 16, 2018, Greta Doull, 95, passed away peacefully at the Veterans Care Centre, Halifax, her home for the past 19 months.

Born in Bellshill, Scotland to Alec and Mary Dick, Greta was pre-deceased by her beloved husband Bill, her parents, and her brother David. She leaves to mourn her daughters Carol McFarlane (Malcolm) and Christine Doull (Bryan Wyley), grandsons David and Andrew (Victoria) McFarlane, granddaughters Patricia O’Connor and Cathy Wyley, and great-grandchildren Taylor, Macayla, Breanna, Kallie, Felix, Atticus, Talia and Liliana. Greta also leaves behind her best friend Margaret.

Greta proudly served in the British Navy as a WREN from 1942-1945 in a special capacity. She worked as a codebreaker at Bletchley, England doing very secretive work. After the war, Greta and husband Bill emigrated to Canada, where they lived in Vancouver, Hubbards, Halifax, and Seabright, her final and much loved home on St. Margaret’s Bay.

The family wishes to express its thanks to the caring staff of the Veterans Care Centre, Halifax, for making Greta’s last 19 months so loving and comfortable. At Greta’s request, there will be no memorial service but simply a private family gathering at a future date. Final arrangements are in the hands of Ronald A Walker Funeral Home of Tantallon. Donations in Greta’s name may be made to VON Canada, 100-2315 St. Laurent Blvd., Ottawa, Ontario K1G 4J8 or to William Black United Church, 10515 Peggy’s Cove Road, Glen Margaret NS B3Z 3G9.
