Obituary

Margaret Jean Frederick
Jean passed away September 19, 2019, age 84 at the “The Farmhouse”, surrounded by her family, due to complications from cancer. She was the only daughter of Dr. John C and Dorothy Acker of Halifax. She is survived by three sons, Robert William, Hantsport, Peter Charles, Tantallon, and Scott Alexander (Tammy), Glen Haven. A brother, John (Rosalee), Saint John, NB. She was a retired R.N. from the Victoria General School of Nursing, graduating class of 1957. Jean has two grandsons, Zackery (Alicia), and Alex, three granddaughters, Laura, Amelia, and Lyla, and three great-grandsons, Mitchell, Corbin and Quinn. Gardening was one of her favorite pastimes, as well as well as spending time with family and friends and a glass of wine at her beach. One of her joys was ringing hand bells at Bethany United church, where she rang them for 30 years. She was an avid ukulele player, having played in an adult ensemble for quite a few years, and taught ukulele for 20 years. She enjoyed baking, reading, Crosswords and Sudoku. She volunteered for many years for the Heart & Stroke Foundation and as a “cuddler” at the Grace Maternity Hospital. Jean was predeceased by her husband Allan C Frederick. To all of you, I am so sorry to hear you lost her but I know she is where she needs to be.

Also so sorry I couldn't make it to the service but was thinking of you all and especially your Dad and Mom over the years when I saw them both quite regularly. Jean was so fun to be around for me. Very lovely woman who will be missed.

Rob,Peter and Scott and families; we were so saddened to hear that Jean has passed away,She certainly kept her spirits up and her positive thinking during her illness.Jean was not only a VGH friend but a part of our "alley" group during our three years of living in residence. We were a close group of gals and extended that friendship to the boyfriends and spouses .Our friendship with Jean and Alan continued these many years following our VGH days. She will be missed ,as I know she will be a huge loss to the family. Our prayers and thoughts are with you at this time ..remember the good times, which I know there are lots of wonderful memories.Marie & Glynn Salter

I loved Jean. Always so full of life, good-natured, and quick to laugh. I met her and Allan thirty years ago while visiting my good friend Charlotte, a good friend of theirs, who spent summers at the lovely cottage on the beach. Over the years, I had so much fun with them on my trips to Nova Scotia, taking a boat ride on St. Margaret’s Bay, having a swim, shelling peas for Jean’s hodgepodge, picking berries and once even ice skating on the pond. I feel so fortunate to have had Jean in my life, she made me happy, and I continue to hold many happy memories of her in my heart. I am so very saddened by Jean’s passing. My deepest sympathy to all Jean’s family and friends at this very, very sad time.

I would like to offer my condolences to Robbie, Peter and Scott and their families on the passing of their Mum. Together with my late parents Howard and Sadie, we were neighbors on Glenora Avenue for many, many years and I have fond memories of Jean. Wishing you comfort at this sad time.
