88, of Boutilier's Point, NS, sadly passed away on August 19, 2019 at Shoreham Village in Chester, NS. Born in Boutilier's Point on Nov. 28, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Foster and Maude (Boutilier) Cornelius.
Our sweet Mom will be fondly remembered as a loving, caring and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. She had a great sense of humour and loved to laugh, sing, play her guitar, harmonica, keyboard, accordion and most of all she loved to dance and just couldn't stop herself whenever she heard music, which was her passion. She had many favourite country singers, but enjoyed Vince Gill the most. She loved to read and made many ceramic creations in her little workshop Dad built for her. She really enjoyed a good game of horseshoes, mini-golf, washer toss, lawn darts, badminton, charades, crokinole, Rumoli, Trouble or a good old fashioned game of Snap or Crazy 8’s with her grandchildren. Mom loved her little house, and in her later years, would enjoy sitting out on her back deck in the summer with her country music playing, while enjoying a cold Moosehead Dry Ice beer in the warm sunshine. Mom had a huge, generous heart, and would put others first. She gave to many charities and was there for her family if in need. She would always go that extra mile whenever she took on a task, and years ago, when she worked as a volunteer with the Boutilier's Pt. Recreation Assoc., she literally went that extra mile by walking all the way up to the Head of St. Margaret's Bay going door to door selling tickets to help raise money. She was a very good listener and would give great advice when asked. She always made Christmas extra special and a fond childhood memory for us all, was when she would hide one special gift from Santa, usually a game for the whole family, behind the sofa, and would bring it out just when we thought Christmas couldn't get any better! Seeing other people happy was her greatest reward. Mom loved spending time with her family whether we were camping, having our annual Christmas Eve sing-song or just sitting with a cup of tea. She was always young at heart and loved being around her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Anyone who was fortunate enough to have known her, loved her, as they saw what a kind and sweet soul she was. Marion, Mom, Little Mama, Nanny, Aunt Marion, Bumpy-Boo, your passing has left a huge emptiness in our hearts, but you will never be forgotten. We love and miss you very much, Little Mama. It gives us comfort, though, to know that you and Dad are dancing together again.
Survived by her son Don Mombourquette, Liverpool; daughters: Sharon (Douglas) Keel, Boutilier's Point; Cynthia MacInnis, Halifax; Paulette (Don) Gillespie, Hammonds Plains; Angela (Adrian) Coupe, Hubbards; Twila (Rick) McInnis, Stillwater Lake; brother Arleigh (Marge) Cornelius, Middle Musquodoboit. Grandchildren: Andrea, Mark, Natalie, Yvonne, Tyler, Corey and Laura. Great-grandchildren: Jordan, Hayley, Katherine, David and Kai, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her beloved husband Wilfred; brothers Arnold and Laurie Cornelius; sister Nita Lavers; son-in-law, Douglas Keel and grand-daughter, Irene Belliveau.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Ronald A. Walker Funeral Homes. Thank you Rhonda for all your help and guidance. Mom's wishes were for a family committal service to be held in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. Many thanks to the staff at Shoreham Village and particularly the staff on A and C Wings, for the loving care they gave our mom. You are truly the angels among us. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
