It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, sister, grandmother and friend Muriel O'Brien, on September 23, 2020 at the Halifax Infirmary unit 8.1. She had 5 grandchildren Nicholas Colp, Donald Mosher, Bernice Mosher, Catherine Duggan, David Ward and several great grandchildren. Muriel was an avid knitter who enjoyed sharing her gift with her community. She loved making people smile and laugh, and always loved beating everyone at a game of crib. Harry, Heather and Bernie, I was so sorry to hear of your mom's passing. I certainly spent tons of time at your place growing up and your mom always made me feel welcome. I remember her always being busy, whether it was knitting of baking. I have very fond memories of her baking, especially her chocolate cake with mayo. Who knew you could put mayo in a cake and it would be so delicious - apparently she did! Thinking of you all!

Yesterday, I was saddened to read about Muriel's passing in the Chronicle-Herald. I have a flood of memories of Muriel. Her voice still resonates in my head. It was full of energy.
For years, at Christmas, she would knit socks for me as a gift. They were unique, to be sure. When I had the opportunity to put them on, they were warm and kept my toes safe. She always welcomed me as I entered the home on the St. Margaret's Bay Road. Even today, as we drive by on our way to visit family in Glen Haven, I look to the left to see the house, now a ghost!
Being a Big Brother to Bernie is a time of my life that is a part of the fabric that makes up me today, and Muriel is interwoven as well. Being a Big Brother to Bernie enriched me and having Muriel was a bonus, like having won a two for one special.
I was thinking about her last week, smiling to myself, and telling myself that it's time to go visit. Sadly, that opportunity has passed in this life. Hopefully, I'll do better in the next.
My sincerest condolences to Bernie, Junior, Heather, Buster and all their families.
I have great memories of all of you.
