Obituary

Westhaver, Nellie Dell
99, of Head of St. Margaret’s Bay passed away on Tuesday April 30, 2019. Born in Halifax she was the daughter of the late Welsford and Pearl Hartlen. She was a member of the St. Margaret’s Bay Baptist Church for 82 years. A lifetime member of the PC Woman’s Assoc., an avid gardener, wonderful cook and a fine homemaker who enjoyed entertaining and never left her home without making a fashion statement. After working as a receptionist at NuWay Dry Cleaner’s in Halifax she moved home to care for her mother for a number of years. In 1967 she married Glendon Westhaver, her husband for 25 years. He was an old friend from Jeddore and the father of five children, three of which joined her in their new home on Masons Point. In later years she enjoyed bingo with friends and spent many hours working on the Lexicon puzzles. At the age of 92 she appeared in the Hubbards Dinner Theatre, and later the National Film Board Documentary “Mabel” beside her dear friend for many years, Mabel Robinson. Truly a highlight of her life.

Nellie was an amazing woman and a good friend of my parents. 99 busy years and a life well spent. A lovely obituary - she would be proud of such lovely words about her. Our condolences to the family.

To Mae and all the family:
We fondly recall the years we lived in the parsonage on Bonavista Drive and often spent time with Nellie and Glen. Our two sons sort of adopted them as extra grandparents. It was my delight to be Nellie's pastor for about 6 years and to have conducted the funeral service for Glen. For Nellie, after 99 years, hers is a reward for faithfulness. She is absent from the body and present with the Lord. Well done. Oursprayers are with you for our God's loving support. (Rev. Barry and Marilyn Dixon)
