Obituary for Patricia Kate Hollingshead

Patricia Kate Hollingshead, B.Sc, B.Ed, M.A
Passed away peacefully after a brief illness on December 24, 2022 in Halifax, N.S with family at her side. Born July 01, 1944, in Montreal, Que., daughter to the late Richard and Eppie (Munro) Patrick, Riviere-Beaudette, Que. She was the wife of the late Roger Spence Hollingshead, Gatineau, Que., and the mother to R. Warren (Danielle), Bayport, NS. She is also survived by her only brother Jack (Margo), Catalone, NS; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins across the country. Pat was a graduate of McDonald High School in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Que., McGill University, Que., Dalhousie University and St Mary's University NS. where she achieved a gold medal with the degree in Master of Education. She became a teacher at John W. Macleod School where she found her true calling and chose to remain for her 30-year career. Teaching was her passion and she absolutely enjoyed all her grade 6 students. Always independent, she enjoyed travelling. She visited Canada from NFLD to B.C. including St. Pierre and Miquelon and Sable Island. She also visited the United Kingdom where she once attended the Queen’s Garden Party, Europe, the Caribbean, Australia, South America and China. At home, she enjoyed the ocean where she loved to sail and crewed on a sailboat to Boston. She enjoyed kayaking and swimming just steps from her house. She loved all things nature. Her huge garden, which took up a lot of her time was her biggest hobby even though it frustrated her to share it with the deer. She had a collection of fine antiques, a passion passed down from her mother. She had an interest in historical items and literature about all things Canadian. She was always one who wanted to be part of the latest trend or try the newest gadget. She was a lifetime devotee of Coronation Street, and enjoyed watching basketball and baseball on tv. She was very selfless in helping the less fortunate by volunteering and donating. She often enjoyed luncheons with her friends. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Tantallon. As per her wishes, there will be no service. Donations in Patricia’s memory can be made to The Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
