Obituary for Roy Edgar Hubley

Roy Edgar Hubley
HUBLEY, Roy Edgar – It is with heavy hearts that the family share the news of Roy’s passing in the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at the Northwoodcare Bedford, Ivany Place. Roy was born in Seabright on March 18, 1927. He was the fourth of five children born to Edgar and Effie (nee Bremner) Hubley. Roy was the last living member of his family. At age 14 he had his first job working with Eric Pace Sr., on his mobile grocery truck. From there he moved to Maple Leaf Dairies where he worked for 9 years. His longest job was as a driver for the trucking line of CNR, where he stayed for 30 years. He retired in 1982 at the age of 55. His final job was with Nautel, again as a driver, for 8 years. Roy met the love of his life and best friend Willena in 1957 on a blind date. For a year he travelled back and forth to Cape Breton to see her until they married in 1958. The loving couple were married for 51 years until Willena passed in 2009. They lived all of their married life in Seabright in the house built by his father. During their years together they had four children, Gary, Debbie, Kevin and Ken. They have four grandchildren, three step grand children and two great grandchildren. Roy remembered with fondness his close family ties and the simple, good life he had in the St. Margaret’s Bay Area. Faith was always important to Roy. After marriage, he and Willena joined the William Black United Church in Glen Margaret, which quickly became the family church. Roy was an Elder of the church for 30 years (1960-1990). Many will remember him as the warm and friendly greeter at the door, the bell ringer, and the many committees on which he served. During these years he met many wonderful people including his long time friends Gerald Redmond and Eric Pace who he shared many good times with and still looked forward to their continued visits at the Ivany. Roy had also been a member of the White Caps Seniors Club, the Oddfellows Lodge from 1960 until its closing, as well as a founding member of the Seabright Fire Department. Roy’s faith and beliefs were inmeasurable. He saw the best in everyone and everything. His dry sense of humour, his love for a good card game, and his passion for his family and friends will be greatly missed by everyone. Roy was predeceased by his father Edgar, mother, Effie, son Gary; sisters, Daisy (Hurshman), Muriel (Mason), Dorothy (Westhaver), and brother Charlie, and of course, his wife and best friend, Willena, whom Roy always said came to visit him often and he knew was waiting for him when his time came. He leaves behind his children, Debbie (Mike) Carter; Kevin, and Ken (Janice); grandchildren, Kelsey, Sarah, Julie and Cameron; step grandchildren, Nevin and Nicole, Sarah Lynn ; great granddaughter, Hailie and step great grandson, Reece Saulnier and many nieces, nephews and friends. The family will receive visitors 2-4 p.m. Saturday July 21st in the Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Peggys Cove Road, Upper Tantallon. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday July 23rd in the William Black Memorial Church, Glen Margaret. Burial to follow in church cemetery. The family wish to thank the staff at Ivany Place, for the wonderful care and friendship they provided Roy. He thought the world of each and every one of you.
