Obituary for Ruby Frances Johnstone

Ruby Frances Johnstone

of Head of St Margarets Bay / Harbour View Haven, Lunenburg, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on the morning of Nov 12 2023. Born August 21, 1938 in Point Tupper, Cape Breton to the late Colin and MaryAlice (Hayes) Ryan.

She was fiercely proud of her Cape Breton roots despite moving to Yarmouth with her Family at age 17, where she met Lorne, then moved to Ontario where they married. They returned to Carleton, Yarmouth county and settled in Head of St Margarets Bay in 1962 for 60 years. Ruby worked at the Grand Hotel in Yarmouth and various jobs until her children were born. She was a proud homemaker and always quick to offer a meal and a cup of tea. Ruby was a member of the St Margarets Bay Baptist church and the District #1 Vol Fire Department ladies Auxiliary.

Ruby is survived by her husband, Lorne of 65 years; Daughter, June (Dieter) Haas, Martins River; Sons, Ronald (Carla), Boutiliers Point; Corey (Ken), Ottawa ON; grandchildren, Matthew (Stephanie), Amber (Colton), Andrea (Derek), Emily, Anna ( Kyle ), and Dylan; great grandchildren, Ashlyn, Link, and Archer.

Ruby is predeceased by her sister, Sarah Hearn; brothers, John Ryan, Harold Ryan and Mary Margaret in infancy.

Visitation will be held 4-6 pm Thursday, November 23 in the Ronald A Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Peggys Cove Rd, Upper Tantallon.

Funeral Service will be held 2pm Friday November 24 in St Margarets Bay United Baptist Church, 6374 St Margarets Bay Rd; Reception to follow.
