Obituary for Sean Peter Sullivan

It is with profound sadness that the family of Sean Peter Sullivan mourn his passing on July 4th, 2021 at the tender age of 45. He entered the world a warrior on November 19th, 1975 in Halifax, NS and for the duration of his life, he inspired, charmed and led by example. If you were lucky enough to know Sean, you knew loyalty and love; compassion and empathy, and you hadn’t a hope of escaping his magnetic charm and infectious smile. He made everyone around him feel they were important to him and the world was a better place with him in it. He was a connoisseur of craft beer, a wizard in front of the grill and a mainstay of Ponhook campground, filling cups and hearts alike.

He is survived by the love of his life, Karen, who fought fiercely by his side during his battle with ALS; his two beautiful boys, Carter and Ben; his mother Mavis, father Peter, brothers Matt (Mandy) and Jake (Trish); his in-laws Eddie and Eleanor, sister in law Lori (Dan); his nieces and nephews, Emma, Ryan, Jack, Kaitlyn and Grayson; and his beloved dog Sully, who was his constant companion.

His love of life transcended this horrible disease, and he was able to find positivity and humor every day, especially while watching his boys play hockey. Sean, you were taken too soon but we loved you enough for a lifetime. You will live forever in all of our hearts, and you will be missed beyond measure.

A special thank-you to Liane and Nanny, who helped Karen provide comfort, love and support, offering Sean the highest level of care and best quality of life during his entire illness. To the palliative care team, especially Megan and Dr. Dempster; the team at VON, and the ALS society—thank you for your guidance and support. Finally, to Sean’s close friends and community members, we will be forever grateful for your love and support.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
