Obituary for Vincent James Hubley

Vincent James Hubley

My beloved sweetheart, Vince Hubley, passed away in the QE11 Health Sciences Centre on July 2, 2022. Vince was born on May 25th 1947 in Halifax to parents Walter and Eileen Hubley. He attended Queen Elizabeth High School and graduated from Dalhousie University (Bachelor of Commerce) in 1970. He had a very successful career as a sales representative for Johnson & Johnson (medical supplies and equipment division) until his retirement in the early1990s. Vince’s biggest passion was sailing and he was a very accomplished sailor. He and his brother began to learn to sail (self-taught, no coaching, in their mother’s rowboat with a mast their father made from a spruce tree) at age nine at his parent’s cottage in Mackerel Cove, Tantallon. He spent endless hours as a child and adult sailing on his beloved St. Margaret’s Bay. He and Scott won many sailing trophies and represented Canada at the International Fireball Class World Championship in 1976. Vince was a lifelong member of the Bedford Basin Yacht Club. He loved nature, animals, birds and, a voracious reader, was a booklover. He loved living in the country in his home in Seabright. Vince was predeceased by his parents, identical twin brother Scott, and sister Heather Horne. He is survived by his partner of many years, Hazel MacRae, who loved him dearly, niece Amy Peters, nephews Ted and Ben Horne, Stephen, Thomas, Geoffrey, and Peter Hubley. Many thanks to the nurses, doctors, and staff in the Neurology Unit at the QE11 for their care and kindness, a special thank you to Dr. Gordon Gubitz and nurse practitioner, Katie. Memorial donations can be made to the QE11 Health Sciences Centre. A Visitation will be held 4-6 pm Wednesday, July 13 in the Ronald A Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Peggy’s Cove Road, Upper Tantallon. Masks are Mandatory during visitation. Online condolences can be made to www.rawalker.ca
