I have known John since 1974 and saw one of his earlier performances as a mall Santa, he worked his way to the top. We shared a love for the game of bridge and on one occasion won an event at the Halifax Bridge World. The prize was a 40oz bottle of Canadian Club. John didn't drink which heightens one's appreciation of the talent displayed in his most famous part, and so he graciously allowed me to make off with the loot. I myself am not a rye drinker and so to this day I have that bottle in my licquor cuboard. As a tribute to John when any of his many friends visit our home, we have a shot of that Canadian Club, with the 1981 date still on the label, in his honour.
